5Great training aid.

By Paul Jefferson

These snap caps are very durable and non-corrosive. I've had no jams, double-feeds or otherwise, using these snap rounds.

For all those who are unfamiliar with these, they are basically fake rounds that have no firing capabilities whatsoever. They do not cycle your weapons' semi-auto action because their is no primer, gunpowder, or gaseous device involved.

Their main purpose are for use as a training aid (to see if proper trigger pull is excercised) and to safely demonstrate the weapons' actions without the risk of a negligent discharge.

Relatively expensive for only 2 rounds, but very worthwhile in the longrun.

5Very nice!

By J.L. Pettimore IV

Not much to say here: they're aluminum snap caps, they feed and cycle like live ammo, they're nearly indestructible. I like these over plastic snap caps very much. I couldn't tell you how many thousands of dry fires my snap caps have seen but they still work flawlessly.

The only negative comments I have are:

A) The red finish wears over time. Not a big deal, really. Just something to note.

2) Your weapon's steel extractor will (naturally) wear the aluminum case rim over time. Again, not a big deal, just dress the burrs with some 600 wet/dry sandpaper and carry on.

Buy lots to keep up your trigger press and weapon manipulation skills. They also work very well for mixing randomly in a magazine of live ammo to simulate a dead primer for tap/rack/bang drills. Highly useful!

3Potential answer to feeding issues with the Snap Caps in semi-auto firearms

By Ben E G

For those that have semi-auto firearms that hold the bolt open on the last shot, I may have found the reason why these Snap Caps eventually stop feeding reliably. To understand this you need to know about 3 things: (1) the magazine follower, which is the plate between the last cartridge and the magazine spring that moves up as rounds are stripped off the magazine, (2) the bolt-locking lever, which is the part inside the rifle itself that locks the bolt to the rear after the last round, and (3) the magazine-stripping mechanism, which is the part that feeds a fresh cartridge into the chamber that in my case is simply the bottom of the bolt that comes in contact with the top of the cartridge primer. First note, that when there are rounds remaining in the mag the bolt-locking lever is in the downward position so it does not impede the movement of the bolt, and the lever is constantly exhibiting a downward force. In normal cycling operation, after the bolt is forced back to the rear (by gas or by hand) the magazine follower conversly exhibits a constant upward force on the cartridges above it (due to the magazine spring below it) which forces the top cartridge to be pushed to a height suitable for the stripping mechanism to strip that cartridge. The issue is on the last round in the mag when the bolt goes to the rear, the magazine follower must not only have enough force to push up the last cartridge to an appropriate height, but also push up against the bolt-locking lever. A failure to feed the Snap Caps does not necessarily indicate an issue with the magazine or rifle, however. In fact one might notice zero feeding failure with live rounds, but have issues with used Snap Caps. The answer is simple: The fresh live rounds are smoother and therefore easy for the magazine follower to push up, whereas the used Snap Cap rounds have been pitted and worn enough especially in the primer area that the magazine follower fails to push up against the additional frictional force of the rough cartridge along with the downward force of the bolt-locking lever. The reason I know this is because this very thing is happening to me after multiple uses of the Snap Caps, and the feeding issue almost exclusively occurs on the last round in the mag, given the mag was seated correctly in the rifle and the bolt was initially closed before the stripping of that last round. As a final check when that feeding issue occured again (and the bolt simply glided over the cartridge instead of stripping it), all I had to do was give the mag a light tap after which I heard an audible click and visibly saw the cartridge, magazine follower, and bolt-locking mechanism move to the appropriate height.

In short the feeding issues are due to the roughening of the cartridge, and so the Snap Cap is worn out. I have also experienced ~15% extraction failure, but I'm pretty sure this is due to the fact that the "primer" part of the cartridge has been mangled extensively by the extractor, and is not being properly clamped as reliably anymore for successful extraction. Again, the Snap Caps are worn out. In spite of this, I felt that the Snap Caps at least lasted a satisfactory amount of time, and from what I can tell this wearing out is expected. I imagine for some rifles this process occurs faster than in others depending on the extractor. Anyway, I hope this explains what some of the commenters may have experienced if the explanation was not too terribly long. Though expensive, I think this is a decent product to tryout if you feel you don't otherwise have the time, money, or opportunity to practice operating your firearm(s) enough.

UPDATE:
I neglected to mention that the rifle I used these Snap Caps in was an MSAR STG-556. I mention this as a disclaimer, because the STG-556 springs and mechanisms may behave differently or abuse the Snap Caps more or less than ARs or other 5.56 NATO/.223 Rem. rifles. Feel free to let me know your related experiences. Thank you.
