In order to use this, you do need to be a bit of a techie, or at least get a techie to help. A key point many may miss and worth trying if it refuses to pair, try pairing code 6789 or look through all the text files on the included mini-CD for the pairing code if it is different for yours.
I am a long time PC/Network tech, plus a bit of a gearhead, and even I had some issues initially.
My setup: This device and a Viewsonic 7" Android Tablet (wifi and bluetooth, no GPS).
First, I knew that code readers tend to work best if you plug it in, then turn key to ON/ACC (but vehicle usually not started), so I did this.
Second, I enabled bluetooth on my tablet, scanned and found the device listed as "CHX". When I attempted to pair, it stated "try codes 1234 or 0000" yet every time I did this it refused to pair over and over. I put the included mini-CD (which was a "recordable CD") in my PC and looked at all the (VERY POOR and bad English) documentation, and one line in one file I found said "pairing code: 6789". When I went back out and used that code it paired first try (said "paired but not connected" but I hoped that was up to the program/app, and I was right).
Third, I knew I needed an app to read it properly so I had previously installed the Torque Lite (free) app from 1mobile (also available on google play store, but my tablet cannot use google store).
Fourth, in the Torque app, I had to open the options and find the setting for "Bluetooth Preferences - Device" and chose the CHX which I had already paired. After that the app started reading, the green lights started flashing on this device, I added the gauges and items I wanted in the app (long hold on the screen, then Add Widget) and all works nicely.
NOTE: I used this on 2 different vehicles without a problem (once I figured everything out): 2004 Dodge Durango and 2000 Nissan Frontier. The app pulled a code from the Nissan, and it also has the option to clear it after it is fixed.
One big con is that the documentation is in very poor English and scattered all over various folders in plain text files. I did not use the included programs since I will use the app on my tablet, but according to other reviews here, it seems these programs are a bit sketchy. I am sure there are some legit free programs you can install on laptops that can do the same thing as their sketchy ones (look up OpenOBD, it mentions capability to connect to ELM327 devices).
Overall I am happy, although only 4 stars because of the sketchy programs and very poor documentation meant I had to figure it out myself.

My unit had issues and I had to return it to Amazon for refund. I could pair it to my computer or my droid bionic but none of the provided programs or Torque pro could connect. It had an obvious problem.
A second problem lies in the software provided. This is a mini CD/R with many OBDII apps on it and common drivers for Bluetooth hardware. Many of these APPs come with Key Generators. Like pirated software. I am not kidding, they are colorful, animated and play keygen music. This ladies and gentlemen is piracy being sold in retail packaging "I think"... I am not comfortable running this disk on my computer. I suggest Amazon look into the content on these disks. One of the APPs on the disk is sold on Google play store for $6 and they give you a copy for free with a crack to make it the pro version.

They provide you with copies of the software and with Key generators you use after install to Authenticate and activate the software. Comodo Anti virus hates this disk. Look at the picture I added in the description.
Seriously Amazon, this is really Dodgy.

I honestly bought this as a joke I couldn't imagine that such a cheap device can do the things it does now keep in mind that this can't replace the real diagnostic computers but it does a hell of a job showing you what's happening in your engine with all sorts of gadgets widgets you can monitor absolutely everything and it will diagnose the car if it has fault codes and take you to a website to explain to a non mechanic what the problem is. This is the item to get I recommend it 100%. I just use it to monitor my engine not as a diagnostic tool. Bear in mind that after you buy this item you will have to buy a program for your Tablet or a Phone called "Torque" it costs about 5 dollars and gives you all the options I mentioned above. A+ Item.
